Volunteers Needed – KCBS Extreme Makeover BBQ Throwdown

The Kansas City Barbeque Society has teamed up with TV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as it pulls into East Central Kansas to build a new home for a worthy family.

As part of the home building/renovation process, Extreme Makeover typically hosts a Community Fund Raising Event, which helps the charitable family with miscellaneous expenses. However, this version will be quite unique. That’s because KCBS will be adding an authentic Kansas City flavor to the event by preparing a plate of competition BBQ for the expected crowd of 2,000.

But that’s not all. In fact, KCBS has agreed to support the show with an Extreme Makeover BBQ Throwdown. Six of the Top 10 KCBS teams in America will make the journey into KC for a special competition treat that will be judged by six members of the EMHE cast and crew. The Throwdown will occur on stage in front of the crowd right after they have been sworn in as Honorary KCBS Certified Judges.

The fundraiser will take place on Aug. 4, a couple of days before the home “reveal.” The location has not been identified yet, but the event will feature live music, a raffle and a silent auction, with all proceeds will benefit the local family and build fund. The cost of the tickets is $10 and $5 for kids under 12.

How can you help? Just as the home can’t be completed without the help of hundreds of volunteers and builders, this BBQ fundraiser cannot be carried out successfully without the help and support of the devoted KCBS family. That’s why they are currently looking for volunteers to help serve the meal and ensure the event goes smoothly. They are also seeking items for a silent auction to be held during the event. Further details on the exact location will be released closer to the event and can be found here.
