blogOkay, I admit I fell behind on my news coverage while trying (and failing) to get a Big Green Egg out of Santa for Christmas. But that was last year. Welcome to the Brave New World of 2014. Here are a few highlights I found that you may want to know about.

Fiery Foods Show Breaks Records
Not only is 2014 a record year for the Scovie Awards, the National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show made NewsCastic’s 14 Amazing Records Set in Albuquerque recently for Most Chileheads Gathered in One Place. In a (we’re guessing) related note, the city is also home to a burrito eating record. Time for me to open the world’s first Pepto-Bismal drive-thru. Check out the rest of the record holders here.

Where’s the Beef?
According to a recent story by The Exchange, the decline in beef consumption here in America seen in 2013 is expected to continue in 2014. The article also cites stock gains made by hamburger companies (fast food, not so fast food) and talks about why those gains came about and how they could possibly continue in 2014.

Show Us Your Weiners
Thankfully, that’s not the title Grill Daddy used for their Facebook photo contest which you can enter right now. They need a shot of you, preferably fully dressed, doing what you do best over a hot grill—making the yummy for friends and family. The winner gets a prize pack and you can enter here.

Steel, Grass, and Smoke
This spring will mark the 10th annual Bloomin’ BBQ & Bluegrass festival (May 16-17, 2014) in the mountains of East Tennessee – Sevierville, TN. This year’s line-up features everyone from Grammy winners and Grand Ole Opry legends to wildly popular up-and-coming groups, like bluegrass supergroup,The SteelDrivers. See more information at the event website.
